Being an intern at Central is a fantastic opportunity to explore and practice your leadership gifting. It is a season to be developed in leadership, learning how to lead yourself and others in the vision God has given to this family of churches.
Through our internship programme we hope that you will grow in character, confidence in your identity, biblical understanding and missional vision for your life.
In 2022/23 we will be offering internships again at Central. These will be focussed around core leadership development, with the opportunity for placements in different areas of church life, which include:
Come and join the Kids team (behind the scenes)!! We would love to welcome you, as an intern, to be apart of such an incredible team that get the honour and privilege to dream up fun and relevant resources to share and show Jesus to the children of Central Church and the wider community.
Interning with youth gives you the opportunity to get alongside our incredible group of young people, to do discipleship and mission together. You will have the chance to step out and grow in your God given gifts, and partner with our wonderful volunteer team as we see God move in and through our young people. Anything from Bible studies, worship, preaching and teaching, to social events, mentoring, and leadership development, there’s no shortage of ways you can get involved!
If you love hanging in coffee shops with amazing students for the day then we’d love to have you. If you love mentoring and discipline young people, if you love on mass cooking, events planning, prayer meetings this is the internship for you. Working with students is highly relational and not highly structured. It’s about being present with the students and encouraging them in their communities, in their personal walk with Jesus and as a whole group in the gathering spaces and events.
Work with our inspiring 20s and 30s at Central, resourcing and equipping communities and helping to disciple an amazing bunch of people who are committed to our church and our city.
Care (Soul Food, Clothesbank+, CAP etc)
A CARE internship involves working closely within the Clothesbank, Central Cafe, CAP and Soul Food teams. It’s such an encouraging area to work in as you get to work so closely with such an incredible group of people and share the love of Jesus in practical ways with those around Edinburgh city.
Prayer & Prophecy
An opportunity to grow personally in the area of prayer and exploring the prophetic while also having opportunities for leadership and discipleship of others in these areas. Opportunities include 24-7 Prayer weeks, corporate and community prayer events, prophecy training, prayer ministry, personal development in prayer and prophecy.
Come and spend a year working with our incredible musicians at Central Church! You’ll get stuck in helping to organise team events, serve regularly on Sundays, have a go at songwriting, have the opportunity to stretch or explore gifting as a worship leader, and learn some of the practical skills required to lead a team on a day to day basis.
Are you exploring a call to ministry and want to invest time learning how to shape a gathered expression of church? As a gatherings intern you join in the weekly shaping of Sunday gatherings, with space to learn the practical skills required to lead a large team of volunteers on a weekly basis, and the opportunity to explore leadership in a gathered context.
We are a church with a heart to welcome new people to our city. An internship with refugees is a year of working closely with our Sanctuary community, getting alongside new individuals and families to the city and helping them to feel at home in a new country and culture.
Are you passionate about building community, encouraging leaders and equipping them? We have a vibrant group of diverse Communities that have different missional focus’ across the city of Edinburgh. They are designed to be places where people live out our values to Love Edinburgh, Be Family and Follow Jesus. Come and invest a year supporting our communities and developing as a leader amongst our brilliant volunteers and staff team.

A personal programme of reading and study will be agreed with your line manager and additional training conferences will be identified throughout the year.
Interns will work under the day to day supervision of a staff member, and will have regular reviews during the year. They will meet weekly with the staff team and from time to time they will have opportunity for intern training with a member of the senior team.
Internships are possible for between 2 – 4 days per week, depending on the availability of the intern and the responsibility of the position. Interns will have a fairly structured weekly timetable that will be reviewed during the year.
Internship at Central costs around £800 (TBC). This fee covers your Training Hub place, as well as additional resources, training and input.
If you’ll find it difficult to cover this cost for whatever reason we would be really happy to discuss this with you and either offer support in raising the funds or in some circumstances we are able to reduce the cost in order to make it as accessible as possible.
Accommodation with a church family may be possible. Internships are offered on a part-time (min. 2 days a week) basis to enable additional part-time work.
